H.R. 1350: THE SNAKE IN THE GRASS
Let us not forget. We have a cloud looming over our children. It is called H.R.1350. And, while our attention has been drawn away from it as we look to collaborate with our Senators on S.1248, we cannot forget for one moment that H.R. 1350 is alive and well.
H.R. 1350 looks to strip our children of almost every educational protection that assures students a meaningful Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). It appears that if those who crafted H.R. 1350 had their way, the spirit of FAPE would not exist at all.
These are frightening times for students with disabilities. H.R. 1350 is not going away. It is not a little snake in the grass, rather it is one that is ready to bite and strangle the life out of our present IDEA at just the right minute. It is strong and treacherous. And, it is the desire of many of our legislators to implement this very damaging bill.
Only you, your family, friends, and others that you know can make a difference right now. We each have to make sure that our Congressional Representatives and Senators know how evil H.R. 1350 is for our children.
This week, your Congressional Representatives and Senators are going to be in your district. I know that we have asked you to contact them before, but we need you to do it again and again. Go back in the Our Children Left Behind Archives, all the way back to May, to refresh yourself on H.R. 1350 and why it is a malignant threat to our children. Explain this to your Representatives and Senators. Then, clearly let them know what is needed to make education work for our children.
We are all that we have, folks. The clock is ticking. We have come far with the Senate bill, and some of the Senate offices have been listening. But, this political process permits H.R. 1350 to prevail. Let us do all that we can to keep that from happening.
Thanks to all of you for helping our children.
